What's inside

The book itself

  • Every recipe on this site, cleaned up and set in one place.
  • A section of Rose's cards that never made it online, still being scanned.
  • Kitchen notes from the margins. Substitutions, timings, and small warnings only a cook who'd made a recipe a hundred times would write down.
  • A short chapter on cooking with what the season gives you in Ohio, month by month.
  • A conversion chart for the old measurements Rose used ("a good pinch," "the size of a walnut").

In their own words

From the family

Rose fed half the county at some point or another. Having every one of her recipes in one place is going to save me every Christmas.

Why we're making it

The story behind the book

The tin box that held Rose's recipes is starting to show its age. Some of the cards are fifty years old and older, written in pencil, folded and refolded until the creases split. The family agreed a long time ago that these should not be allowed to disappear.

The site is one half of the answer. A cookbook you can hold in your hand and set on the counter is the other. If you'd like a copy when it lands, leave your email below and we'll send word.
